There are more than 200 different types of cancer and each one of them is different. There is huge variation in survival between cancer types and the challenge for science is to find a cure for each of these cancer types.

The good news is that thanks to scientific and medical advances, cancer survival has doubled in the last 40 years and in your lifetime there will be major leaps forward.

The more we understand cancer, the better our chances of developing a cure. Just one of the reasons why science is such a rewarding and important career choice.

I am just one of the thousands of scientists in the world that make up Team Cancer Research. Each scientist is working to piece together the jigsaw that is cancer, one tiny piece at a time until we fully understand what makes every cancer cell tick. One day we will get there. Like the Irish Cancer Society motto “we won’t give up until cancer does”.
