      Yes. Medical scientists help doctors by providing test results as quickly as possible so they can treat the patient. Medical scientists crossmatch blood for patients that need a transfusion and who otherwise would die. There are many tests we do, such as glucose levels-important if someone is a diabetic, testing cerebrospinal fluid for bacteria in the case of meningitis. If bacteria is present the clinician needs to know so as to treat the patient quickly. this is very important in neonates and young children
