Sometimes it can be stressful. We are working with very dangerous pathogens so we should work slowly and methodically, but the doctors want the results as soon as possible, so we are under constant pressure to get the job done safely and quickly. It is challenging but also enjoyable. I work with a very nice bunch of people.

sometimes it can be challenging. It is not easy to handle irate caller if that does not agree with a release of a GMO for testing in a field-GM potato

Yes and NO. It is hard some times, but also rewarding often, so worth teh hardship!

Scientific research is expensive and time consuming.

The hardest part of my job as a researcher is finding money and the time to do the research I want to do. As scientists we need to apply for funding from the EU or other sources to do our research. It can take many days/weeks to prepare an application so it is really tough when that application is rejected.

Then it’s back to the drawing board because you have to keep trying.
