Cancer can happen in any cell in the body and each type of cell gives rise to a different form of cancer. For example there are different types of leukemia and because there are different types of blood cells within which cancer can occur.

There are two main types of white blood cells in your body: lymphoid cells and myeloid cells. Leukemia can happen in either type.

Myelogenous leukemia occurs in myeloid cells and Lymphocytic Leukemia occurs in the lymphoid cells.
